A Long-tail boat is a traditional Thai wooden boat used in local fishing, transport and sales. They have a canoe like body and are usually quick and hardy, which is why we have found them perfect for a short 2 dive trip to the sites close to Phuket. Our long tail boat dives are available during high season when the winds and the sea is calm. There are many interesting destinations reachable via long-tail around Phuket. Suitable for short trips and small groups, there's a lot of fun to be had exploring the less crowded dive-sites.
Koh Kaew Islands diving and temple visit
Koh Kaew islands sits south of Phuket only about 15 minutes from Rawai beach. The temple is located on Koh Kaew Yai and has monks living on the island. The dives can be conducted off the beach or off the long-tail boat. The currents can be strong outside the bay area but the drift diving here is pretty good. Koh Kaew island has a lot of interesting stories connected to it, once we are completed with our dives we will take you around the island for a short walk to visit several of these sites with the historical and mythological ties to Thai culture
Koh Hae, Koh Mai Thon and Koh Aew dives
For these dives we would start from Chalong pier. The travel time would depend upon the sites chosen, Mai Thon is the furthest out towards the east but also may be one of the most rewarding sites, as the work of the local government's coral restoration has been concentrated here. Macro searchers will appreciate the selection of nudi-branches available on this dive site. Koh Hae or Coral islands also has a stunning reef that is relatively shallow on the southern side and can be used to train divers. Koh Aew is a nice wall dropping to 20+m with a nice current this is a fun drift dive.
What you can expect
The long tail boats can accommodate up to 8 divers for a maximum of 2 dives, we load the boats up with tanks, weights and equipment as necessary in the morning of your trip. Depending on the chosen dive location, the journey may take between 15 minutes - 1 hour. We provide soft-drinks, light lunch and water for you through out the day. The locations we currently visit are Koh Kaew Islands, Koh Hae, Koh Aew, Koh Pu, Koh Mai Thon.
How it works
With a minimum of 2 pax needed for confirmation, the long-tail trip can be a nice, quiet, and cheaper alternative for a private day out. As we are able to reach sites and islands close by, these places are either overlooked or too shallow for bigger boats. The trip can go at your pace, we can explore beaches and islands, temple visits on the islands after or in-between dives.
