Beach

There are many nice beaches around Phuket, of which for SCUBA, are mainly on the West side of the island and therefore only dive-able during our high season between mid October till mid March.  The Eastern side has been affected previously by the tin-dredging operations and the shallow bay area, but since the tin industry has all but disappeared from the island some spots may be worth a visit as coral has been spotted.  Our most visited beaches are as follows:

Kata and Karon Beaches

We could actually split Kata and Kata Noi beaches into to different divesites as they are actually two beaches.  Both are gentle slopes both have an abundance of life, although Kata Noi beach is a bit further of a swim. Kata beach is our house reef and one of the most popular beaches around Phuket for diving. It is easy to see why, we have frequent turtle and seahorse sightings along with lots of common and colourful reef fish.

Karon beach is slightly north of Kata and the reef there is a little less frequented by divers it is possible to dive from Karon reef and drift all the way to Kata, which will require some good air management but its worth it for the chance to see larger Jenkin's rays laying in the sand.

Nui Beach, Ao Sane and other Beaches

As weather, environment and popularity of areas changes so do the underwater life at these beaches, there are several that have been affected by mass tourism and others have thrived where previously there were nothing.  There are many areas that are worth investigating for the adventurous diver.   Come by and talk to us about what is happening on some of the beaches around Phuket, find out news about any recent sightings of interesting, rare, or just plain pretty marine life.

What you can expect

Beach dives are easy and relaxing, essentially we load up our truck and drive to our desired destination, gear up and walk into the sea.  Many of the sites can be accessed in just a few minutes directly from the shore.  Many of these sites are also suitable for snorkeling.  Most of the reefs have hard corals and generally are in a good condition.  There are several sites such as our house reef -Kata and Karon that are very popular with macro photographers searching for rare and interesting creatures.  We do get visits from larger pelagics now and again, adding to the spice of our beach dives.

How it works

Should you be short on time, just interested in diving but do not want to go out on a boat, then the beach is an ideal choice.  We make our own schedule and we dive at our own desired maximum time.  It can be just as easy as you popping in, deciding you want to go on a beach dive, and us loading tanks on to the truck.
